SUSTAINABILITY & SOCIAL
ENGAGEMENT

At the Blatter’s Arosa Hotel, sustainability and social engagement hold significant importance. We are committed to various areas of social support. Primarily, we support the organisation Médecins Sans Frontières (Doctors Without Borders) and collaborate closely with the regional workshop for disabled persons, ARGO.

In terms of solar energy production, we lead in Arosa. Depending on sunny days, we generate up to 10% of our energy needs ourselves. The remaining electricity is sourced exclusively from hydroelectric power provided by our local energy supplier.

CURRENT INITIATIVES

Our 270m² photovoltaic system produced nearly 35,000 kWh of electricity in 2023.

This equates to saving approximately 8,000 Liters of heating oil

and consequently reducing 23.27 tons of CO2 emissions

to offset the same amount of CO2 from the atmosphere in 10 years, we would need to plant 1,862 trees

ARGO

We maintain a longstanding partnership with ARGO, a foundation in Graubünden dedicated to integrating people with disabilities into the workforce.

Our latest project involves upcycling candles made from leftover candle wax from our restaurants. In addition to various other initiatives, the proceeds from our “se non é vero” entirely benefit the ARGO foundation.

Hydroelectricity

We obtain all of our electricity requirements from renewable energy. Up to 10% is produced by our photovoltaic system, and the rest in the Schanfigg hydropower plants of Arosa Energie.

To ensure the entire electricity requirement is sourced from renewable energy, 470,000 kWh are allocated from Arosa Energie for the Blatter’s Arosa Hotel.

Alpine Honey

For over 8 years, 8 to 12 bee colonies have called the Blatter’s Arosa Hotel their exclusive summer home. In collaboration with the beekeepers Luzia and Markus Gurt, this unique arrangement allows us to produce our very own Alpine honey, a privilege shared only with our guests. The average of 225 kg of Alpine honey produced covers our entire annual honey requirement, ensuring a truly exclusive experience for our guests.

In the summer months, you can watch the busy bees directly from the Grand Restaurant during breakfast — you can’t get more local than that.

medecins sans frontieres

Every glass of Arosa mountain spring water is not only healthy but also does good. We contribute to Médecins Sans Frontières’ (Doctors without Borders) part of our expenses for serving table water in our restaurants.

Last year, we were able to donate CHF 4502 — many thanks to our guests for their support.

FUTURE PROJECTS

With renovating the south façade, we plan to install an additional 300m2 of photovoltaic panels. This will allow us to generate up to 25% of our electricity consumption internally in the future.
